ATLANTA - Swedish panel products manufacturer Valinge Innovation will demonstrate its click furniture technology at IWF 2016 at Booth #4119. The Threespine technology makes it possible to assemble furniture in seconds without using any tools, screws or plugs, according to the company.

The technology also offers the possibility of dismantling the piece, enables designs without any visible holes, and is reported to be suitable for a wide range of materials and material combinations.

Wood industry fascination with fasteners is trending at IWF 2016

Tightening the joint with new types of fasteners is on the radar for wood manufacturers, who are eyeing the new breed of hardware requiring unique machining of panel and solid wood.

Valinge says with Threespine click furniture technology and its technical support, furniture maker licensees can introduce a new generation of furniture on the market. The system works by pushing a panel into position. Then a flexible plastic tongue is pushed into the tongue groove. As the panel reaches its final position, the locking tongue snaps out into a wedge groove, emits a click sound and locks the panels.

Valinge Innovation is a research and development company in the flooring and furniture industry. In 1994, the company developed the concept of glue-free click flooring. The Threespine system is an adaptation of that technology.

Earlier this year KKR took a 50 percent stake in the company.  The partnership with KKR will allow Välinge to invest behind new technologies in fast growing areas such as LVT flooring, tool-less furniture assembly, digital micro 3D printing and wood powder technology. Wood powder has been adapted to its powder-based flooring, Nadura and Woodura. The former minority owners, Kronospan and Swiss Krono Group, will remain major licensees of Välinge’s technology. Today, the Viken, Sweden, company has more than 1,300 patents in flooring, furniture and surface technologies.
