HOME STORAGE SOLUTIONS BUSINESS The home storage organizing systems industry is estimated at approximately $4 billion. The total industry, including home organization products such as bins and baskets and do-it-yourself organization products, is at $7.7 billion. Severely impacted in 2008 by the crash of the new home market — 75% of its sales — closet firms reached into kitchen cabinetry, outsourced production, joined franchises and expanded into remodeling. Turning to garages and other home organization solutions as a way to diversify and augment their product lines, closet companies began to seek additional leads and ways to define themselves and their services. The Association of Closet and Storage Professionals (ACSP) developed a certification program for design professionals. CLOSET DESIGN TRENDS Most closets (56%) are white or solid wood and veneer (30%). Other popular trends include the use of European designs, embedded LED lighting, sliding doors, textured cabinetry and shelving surfaces with dark finishes. |
