MISSION, KS  - Build a room for your child that grows as he does with careful purchases such as convertible furniture, closet space, neutral palettes and decorative accessories, an organizing expert with ClosetMaid says.

Lorie Marrero, a certified organizer, says when a family is expecting a new addition, it is important to establish a design framework that can evolve with the child as he grows. Furniture is a large part of the investment in a room’s design, Marrero says, adding that selecting a crib that can convert into a twin or double bed in later years is a wise investment.

Likewise, Marrero says selecting a dresser that can double as a changing table will cut down on costs, as well as free up a room’s space.

"You're doing yourself a big favor by establishing a solid foundation of furniture and storage in a child's room from the start," Marrero says.

In addition to furniture, Marrero says parents must pay attention to closet space. Tiny garments will become larger clothing items as a child grows. A solution to that is a closet organizational system that can adjust over the years, such as ClosetMaid’s ShelfTrack.

For wall decorations, Marrero recommends temporary decals that leave no sticky residue after removal.
