Devoe Martin wore out a path in the carpet, four times walking up to the presentation stage to receive a first-place Top Shelf Award at a ceremony held Feb. 27 during the 2013 Cabinets & Closets Conference & Expo in Edison, NJ.

Martin, who along with his wife Angel, co-owns Affordable Closets Plus of Bangor, PA, wowed the judges with his design skills and creativity displayed in three of his entries, including his Hidden Treasure Trove Dressing Room that not only took top honors for Wood Closet over 18 feet, but also was judged “Best Overall” in this year’s competition.

DeVoe’s masterful design was used to convert a 17-foot by 21-foot spare bedroom into a his-and-her dressing room. The Hidden Treasure Trove Dressing Room includes a hidden door, built into one of the shelving units, that leads to a secret space revealing a Batman costume. The dressing room combines walnut veneer with solid sapele mahogany and ceiling beams that tie in with the crown moulding and trim.

Organization solutions include four custom pull-outs for accessories – two on his side for belts, ties, hats, briefcase and small travel items and two on her side for belts/scarves on one wall and evening handbags on the opposite wall. The back wall dresser unit was finished with a travertine top engraved with the customer’s last name initial.

Martin also won awards for “The White Dressing Room,” in the Closet: Melamine/other, 18 linear feet or less; and for “Passage Way of Art” in the Specialty Room category.
