FERDINAND, IN — Upholstered furniture maker Best Home Furnishings has broken ground for a $3.1 million expansion at its Ferdinand, IN-based facility. Targeted for completion in August 2016, the 100,000-square-foot expansion will boost the size of the furniture supplier’s overall facilities to 1.2 million square feet.

The company said the expansion will enable it to move the production of its highly tailored products and improve overall production efficiency.  “The new plant will enable Best to streamline and realign manufacturing processes for even greater efficiencies,” said Brian Lange, president of Best Home Furnishings. “Our last expansion came in 2000, and since then we have doubled our sales.  Best can only grow so much within our walls, and the time has come to expand to facilitate further growth.”

The upholstered furniture manufacturer said it expects to hire additional workers when completed. Currently it has approximately 1,000 employees at facilities located in Ferdinand, Jasper, Cannelton, and Paoli, Indiana.

Lange said Best Home Furnishings chose to expand in its hometown because “the area continues to supply us with very skilled individuals who possess a strong work ethic.  Ferdinand is where we want to be; it’s our home.”

Founded in 1962, the family-owned firm has grown significantly. In 2004 it changed its name from Best Chairs to Best Home Furnishings to reflect the growing diversity of products, which now includes stationary sofas, tables as well as gliders and rockers along with a wide range of chairs.
