Foreign headcount fell at Furniture China 2016 exhibition
SHANGHAI - The 2016 China International Furniture Expo, a four-day exhibition that ended September 11, attracted 119,975 visits from buyers and visitors from more than 158 countries, up 17.75 percent, compared to last year. But overseas visits fell by 21.58 percent, to 15,077.
Domestic visitors were mainly from the China's Top 10 cities and provinces: Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Beijing, Shandong, Fujian, Anhui, Sichuan and Liaoning, covering 90% or so of the total domestic visitor numbers. Show promoters said this was mainly due to the G20 Summit held in Hangzhou, which lead to a more difficult application for entry visa by overseas visitors.
But the attendance is also in keeping with a decline in China's furniture industry exports for the first half of 2016, which saw a 10.73 percent decrease compared to the same period of last year.
Korea, United States, Taiwan, Australia, Japan, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, United Kingdom and Thailand were the major national sources of the audience.
Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, Chairman of the Red Dot Award for design, said that design by China has surprised him every year, and he expects to attend the show annually going forward. Dr. Zec runs the Gold Idea Furniture Awards at the show. In 2016, Furniture China highlighted the differentiated competition featured by key words such as "premium", "design" and "lifestyle."
A total of nearly 3,500 exhibitors participated in Furniture China, Maison Shanghai and Shanghai Home Design Week, up 17 percent over last year.
For 2017, show planners say that with an improved economy, Chinese people call for a show of high-end lifestyle geared towards the global which influences international lifestyle. The 23rd China International Furniture Expo / Furniture China 2017 will take place on 12-15 September 2017 in Pudong, Shanghai. See you again next year!
