LUMBER DEFECT SCANNER

Tisfoon Ulterior Systems introduces the Tisfoon Lumber Defect Scanner (LDS), an IWF 2012 Challengers Award Entry,  which can be retrofitted on most existing cut-off saws. The system can be installed directly inside the saw, requiring no additional material handling or installed as a stand-alone device, managing material for multiple saws. The system consists of two scanning cameras, one above and one below the feed line. Using proprietary scanning algorithms, the system finds defects, grades and re-optimizes material without slowing down the saw, says the company. An industrial-grade computer manages the information, revising the cut sequence when defects are detected. The Tisfoon LDS scanning software is based on statistical analysis and is independent of lighting or lumber species.  The parameters can be reviewed and changed via the touch screen control included with the system, says the company.
