Chip Yawney, owner of A Cut Above Woodworking, Jessup, MD, tests out the Festool Carvex jigsaw and specialized accessories to cut a smooth arc in a plywood panel.

Festool introduces the Festool Carvex 420 Jigsaw, which offers a maximum speed of 3,800 strokes per minute. The Carvex 420 Jigsaw features an interchangeable base system, which offers task and material specific bases and base inserts for optimal results cutting wood, wood-like materials, plastics and metals, says the company.

The advanced blade guidance system is designed to ensure smooth, perpendicular cuts, adds Festool, even with thick materials. The Carvex 420 has a cutting depth with wood of 4 ¾ inches.

The jigsaw features four high intensity LEDs plus a brushless motor, which offers long service life while reducing the weight of the jigsaw, says Festool. The jigsaw has a tool-less base change system and an adjustable chip guard, which can be adjusted vertically.

The Festool jigsaws use carbide guides to virtually eliminate blade deflection, says the company. The jigsaw is designed to provide splinter-free cuts and a reduced need to sand cut surfaces.

The Festool Carvex 420 Series is available in four models, two corded and two cordless models, with two D-handles and two featuring a barrel grip. The cordless version of the Festool Carvex 420 Jigsaw will be available in late 2013.
