NEW YORK, NY - Dremel enters the 3D printing arena with the Idea Builder, a tabletop device powered by Autodesk software. Dremel rotary tools used by woodworkers include Multi-Max oscillating tools, Ultra-Saw and Saw-Max multi-saws, Fortiflex flex shaft tools.

3D printers are gaining the interest of woodworkers, working as the do on the principle of "additive" manufacturing, printing a hot, viscuous fluid that solidifies on cooling - the mirror image of CNC "subtractive" manufacture. At the 2014 Wood Industry Conference in April a session on 3D printing was presented; and 3D printing was the top if a presentation at Stiles Machinery's Executive Briefing Conference. Workshops on 3D printing were presented at IWF 2014 and some exhibitors showed 3D printers in the booths.

The Dremel printer is sold at Home Depot and Amazon, where it is available for preorder at $999.

A new site to support the printer features information about 3D printing and the Dremel 3D Idea Builder, as well as a catalog of models users can build with their printer. Dremel partnered with Autodesk, Inc. to offer print-ready 3D models and free design tools, which can be accessed on the site.
