House Design Trends Based on Baby Boomer PreferencesPOTLAND, OR - Born between 1946 and 1964, the Baby Boomer generation makes up 45 percent of the work force and holds the most discretionary income in history.

With all of their success, a large percentage of the Baby Boomer generation plans to move when they retire according to a study by AARP.  As a result, architects, designers and builders are modifying floor plans and home designs to fit the needs of Boomers.

"Boomers in a position to sell their existing homes prefer building a new home to take advantage of new technology and energy efficiency than trying to maintain or remodel an older home," said Tammy Crosby, Chief Operation Officer of house plan provoider The House Designers.

An example of the generation's preferences is how they design their kitchens. Entertaining is a top priority for Boomers, so cooking for house guests is important. For these active adults, a high-end kitchen stocked with professional grade appliances, granite countertops, hardwood flooring and custom cabinetry is a must have.
