FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - ShelfGenie, a national franchiser of glide-out custom kitchen shelving installation, is featured as a welcoming second career path for execs displaced from other jobs.

Based in Mariette, GA, ShelfGenie is licensed by Cabinet Essentials Group, LLC, a Virginia corporation, and has a mix of 30 franchises around the U.S. plus manufacturing, master franchises, and company-owned operations.

The fanchise specializes in retrofitting kitchen and bath cabinets with its Glide-Out drawer slides, which are fitted onto Baltic birch drawers with melamine bottoms for installation in clients homes. A variety of other drawer and cabinet inserts, closet and pantry organization systems are also offered, specified to millimeter tolerances and custom built.

Steel slides can bear up to 100 lbs. and carry a lifetime warranty. Installation from sales to completion takes four to six weeks. A national television ad, above,  for the franchise ran this month on the TV show "The Price if Right."

Bonjet Sandigan, a Ft. Lauderdale, FL, franchiser, was featured in the New York Times for his second-career venture into the cabinet and home organization services business. Sandigan, who left his I.T. manager job at Dun & Bradstreet in 2011, bought into the franchise in "the low six figures," and says he is on track to meet his business targets.

Franchises and dealer networks of cabinet and furnniture refinishing, upgrades and refacing are promoting more as the economy recovers. The Pull Out Shelf Company, a sister company to building contractor Posco Manufacturing in Tucson - both owned by Ron Kessler -  seeks dealers to sell dovetailed pull out drawer systems as upgrades to homeowner's cabinets. Like ShelfGenie, the pull out drawer systems are Baltic plywood with melamine bottoms.

Other wood industry franchises include Sir Grout - which also does hardwood floor refinishing; LaCrosse, WI-based Kitchen Solvers refacing and refinishing; La Crosse, WI-based Kitchen Solvers cabinetry refinishers and refacers; N-Hance Revolutionary Wood Renewal, a Logan, Utah-based cabinetry and flooring refinishing franchise, a 200-franchise operation spun off from Home Depot a year ago; Aberdeen, SD-based home remodeling franchise, Kitchen Tune-up, which does refinishing and refacing; 5 Day Kitchens remodeling service, a franchise based Tempe, AZ and launched by Re-Bath LLC; and Kitchen Magic and  National Restorations. A number of these cabinetry and wood refinishing franchises will be exhibiting at Cabinets & Closets Expo 2012 Feb. 27-Mar 1 at the NJ. Convention Center.
