BATH, Maine - The Kennebec Co., a kitchen cabinetry company in Bath, Maine, has been acquired by its president, James Stewart, from it's co-founder, Dave Leonard.
Established in 1974 by Leonard and Jeff Peavey, the business specializes in regional styles of traditional kitchens for homes with early American and other period designs. In the ensuing years, it has expanded the range of architectural styles it builds and has installed custom cabinets as far away as California.
Stewart is planning improvements to the business, which has recently added an engineering department to build more precise cabinetry, reduce waste and lower costs. Stewart changes roles from president to sole owner, according to the story reported by The Portland Press.
This Old House magazine named Kenebec America’s Best Cabinetmaker of Period-Inspired Cabinetry. Its showroom is in the Old Customs House in Bath on the Kennebec River, and features various examples of period-inspired cabinet styles.
