Video: Belt Sander Races at AWFS

Slick and speedy, 20 belt sanders raced down a 75-foot track Thursday afternoon in the final leg of the Belt Sander Racing Association's National Championship Race. The race was held in the North Hall at AWFS Vegas Fair.

Sander enthusiasts competed in both Stock and Modified classes; in the Modified class, the eight racers had the option to alter the belt sander’s motor, drive system and electric systems. Each entrant could race up to two sanders, while shops were able to enter multiple sanders. Two-man pit crews were on hand to support the belt sanders.

Prizes were awarded for first, second and third place in each category, as well as Best Design and Judge’s Choice.

“These races something like you have never seen before,” said Marguerite Hoffmann, AWFS vice president of trade shows. “It is a great way for our attendees and exhibitors to let loose and have some fun.”
