Green Conference Attracts Wood Industry Leaders

INDIANAPOLIS -- Corey Brinkema, president of the Forest Stewardship Council and Rick Cantrell, vice president and COO of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, are among the presenters scheduled to speak at the 3rd Dollars & Sense of Going Green Conference, March 17-18. 

In all, the program will feature 19 presenters, including executives of the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association, American Home Furnishings Alliance, National Hardwood Lumber Association and Composite Panel Association, plus sustainability leaders of Century Furniture, Kimball Office and the Rainforest Alliance. The program also includes a special St. Patrick's Day "Green Networking Reception" with tabletop displays and concludes with optional plant tours of Thiesing Veneer and G.R. Wood.

Attendees can expect timely updates and and opportunity to gain fresh insights into wood certification and chain of custody, the Lacey Act, the new federal formaldehyde rule and more.

Organized by the Purdue University Department of Forestry and Natural Resources and Wood & Wood Products, the Green Conference will be held at the Marriott East in Indianapolis.

Optional Plant Tours: Thiesing Veneer & G.R. Wood

Visit Thiesing Veneer, a family-owned flat and half-round fine face veneer slicing operation. Only about 30 of these operations exist in North America. In addition to slicing equipment, the plant has cooking vats, driers and clipping lines. A circle sawmill is used to flitch logs.

Visit G.R. Wood, a sales and marketing operation with both international and domestic sales. The tour will showcase selected species and quality levels of hardwood veneer.
