Sugatsune, a manufacturer of specialty cabinet, closet and casegoods hardware, opened its first North American showroom in Chicago last June.

Celebrating 30 years in business this year, Sugatsune chose the trendy South Loop, about a mile north of McCormick Place, as the location for its showroom, which features numerous products including architectural hardware, soft-closing door systems and builders hardware.

During the 2012 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), held April 24-26 at McCormick Place, Sugatsune, along with being an exhibitor, also offered show attendees private trolley service to its new showroom where it hosted a reception.

The new showroom features a wide range of unique hardware products and applications along with Sugatsune’s full line of motion designtec products, which include the Lapcon family of dampening products, positioning control and specialized motion control components. Plus, its vast array of hinge, latches, catches, slides and decorative products are on display.

Sugatsune worked closely during KBIS with its wood components partner, Northern Contours, which sponsored a showroom presentation by certified interior designer Annette Wildenauer. Her talk “Is the Generation Gap back,” focused on challenges for workplaces populated by multiple generations. Wildnenauer gave a detailed description of each group and illustrated ways to learn how each group impacts the other, and ways for designers to improve their understanding and communication skills.

Woodway, a Zeeland, MI, custom residential and commercial cabinetry firm, built some of Sugatsune’s showroom displays, including the cabinets pictured above and to the left featuring its new LIN-X lateral hinge.

Sugatsune says the LIN-X allows doors to swing out laterally in a small radius, making them suitable for tight front space applications, like a blind corner in closet spaces. LIN-X is damper equipped for self- and soft-closing movement at the end and can be used for single or double door configuration, inset or overlay use, the company says.

The cabinet display also features Sugatsune's new vertical swing-down door mechanism with soft open and close features and an adjustable arm mounting plate.
