An editorial by Rich Christianson
Here's some exciting news about the WOOD 100.

Executives of companies earning a spot in Wood & Wood Products' WOOD 100 Report this year, who attend the 2005 AWFS Vegas Fair, will receive VIP treatment from fair organizers.

The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers, sponsor of the biennial fair that is moving from Anaheim to Las Vegas, plans to honor representatives of this year's WOOD 100 firms during a banquet ceremony. The dinner gala is scheduled for Thursday, July 28, at the Las Vegas Hilton. The evening's festivities will be emceed by woodworker Scott Phillips, TV host of the American Woodshop. In addition to recognizing WOOD 100 companies for their sales growth achievements, the banquet will include presentations to the winners of the Student Design Contest and the Sequoia Awards for new product innovation.

As a pot sweetener, WOOD 100 executives can qualify for two free room nights at one of four Caesars Entertainment Hotels during the AWFS Vegas Fair, July 27-30.

We are thrilled about partnering with AWFS to recognize the outstanding achievements of WOOD 100 companies during the biggest North American woodworking event of the year. Read on to find out what you have to do to qualify.

WOOD 100 Execs to Talk Shop

Executives of three companies featured in Wood & Wood Products' 2004 WOOD 100 Report will share their company's growth secrets in a seminar during the AWFS Vegas Fair.

Among those who will participate in the July 28 program, "Growing Your Business," is Bill Weaver, president of Canyon Creek Cabinet of Monroe, WA. Weaver's company was named "America's Best" by W&WP last year for its all-around commitment to excellence.

Reed Felton, COO and president of TJ Hale Co., a custom store fixture manufacturer based in Menomonee Falls, WI, and Brian Swanson of Minneapolis-based Lexington Mfg., a components manu-facturer, also are scheduled to take part in the program.

The two-page qualification form appears on pages 73 and 74 of this issue. Use it if you must. But before you go through the trouble of ripping it out of the magazine, we strongly encourage you to check out the online WOOD 100 form (Editor's note: the form was availabe until May 25.).

By using the online WOOD 100 form, you can instantly transmit your information to us. We will confirm receipt of your form and quickly follow up with any questions we might have about the information you supplied.

For the uninitiated, W&WP launched the WOOD 100 in 1990 to pay homage to fast-growing North American woodworking companies. The slogan, "Not the biggest, the best," underscores the fact that the WOOD 100 is open to wood products companies of all sizes, from $100,000 in annual sales on up. This year's WOOD 100 Report will rank and profile companies based on annual sales growth achieved between 2003 and 2004.

As we have done the past two years, W&WP editors will select the 2005 WOOD 100 company that we deem "America's Best." That deserving company will be the subject of an in-depth profile in our November issue.

We invite you to fill out and submit the qualification form. I am happy to personally answer any questions you might have about the WOOD 100 program. I can be reached at (847) 634-4347, ext. 652, or via e-mail at [email protected].

Hope to see you in the WOOD 100 and in Vegas.
