Hot weather isn’t kind to forests, nor to those people who live in the vicinity of a forest fire, a natural disaster often caused by unfavorable weather conditions such as extreme heat and high winds. All it takes is one flaming ember to spark a conflagration that causes billions of dollars’ worth of destruction and leads to scores of people losing their lives.

This infographic by Irish timber merchant Crowe Sawmills crowesawmills.ie/timber-wooden-garden-gates/ features 10 of the most lethal forest fires ever to have flared up, including the Black Saturday Bushfires that rampaged through Australia seven years ago, and a Wisconsin forest fire that was the deadliest ever.

The infographic charts just how much damaged can be caused from the smallest of sparks, and even though most of the blazes profiled were caused by less than ideal weather, we have a responsibility to preserve our world’s forests.
